Subnautica 2 is Live — Early Access First Impressions

Subnautica 2 officially entered Early Access on May 14, 2026. Here's what players are finding in the alien ocean of Planet Zezura.

Subnautica 2 is now live in Early Access on PC (Steam, Epic Games Store) and Xbox Series X|S — and for Game Pass subscribers, it's included from day one at no extra cost.

What's In At Launch

Players are exploring Planet Zezura, an entirely new alien ocean world with handcrafted biomes including the Kelp Forest, Jelly Plateaus, Sparse Plains, Graveyard, Thermal Spires, and the outer Void.

The co-op mode (up to 4 players, drop-in/drop-out, cross-platform between PC and Xbox) is functional from day one — a first for the series.

Standout Systems

  • Biosampler + DNA modification: Collect creature DNA, process it in your Bio Lab, and inject genetic upgrades via the Gene Augmentation Station
  • Rebuilt base building: More flexible procedural construction system compared to Subnautica 1
  • Collector Leviathan: The persistent pursuit predator of the Sparse Plains is already traumatizing players — it will not stop chasing you

Early Access Roadmap

Unknown Worlds expects Early Access to run 2–3 years (full release ~2027–2028), with regular updates adding biomes, creatures, narrative chapters, and new mechanics.

The studio has confirmed no microtransactions during Early Access.
