Welcome Center Guide: Best Biomods & How to Power It Up

The Welcome Center is 80m southeast of your Lifepod and unlocks your first Biomods. Here's how to power it and which abilities to pick first.

The Welcome Center is the most important structure in your first hour of Subnautica 2. Located 80 meters southeast of your starting Lifepod, it's unpowered when you arrive — but once you restore it, it gives you the Habitat Builder blueprint and lets you choose your first two Biomods.

How to Power Up the Welcome Center

You need one Basic Battery inserted into the facility's power slot.

Basic Battery Recipe (craft at Lifepod Fabricator):

  • ×2 Copper — mine from the cave walls directly beneath your Lifepod
  • ×1 Acidic Raion Pouch — mine from plants using the Survival Multitool

Once the battery is inserted, the entire facility powers on.

Pick Your First Biomods at the Bio Lab

The Bio Lab inside the Welcome Center lets you select one Active and one Passive Biomod — your first biological upgrades, provided before you build your own DNA pipeline.

Recommended Active: Dash

Propels you 10 meters instantly in your facing direction with a 5-second cooldown. Invaluable for escaping the Collector Leviathan, reaching air pockets, and conserving oxygen on long dives.

Recommended Passive: Sea Skimmer

Increases your swim speed when moving close to the seabed. Dramatically speeds up ground-level resource runs and early biome exploration.

Alternative Active: Oxygen Control

Extends your usable breath on demand. A solid choice if you find yourself dying to oxygen more than predators.

Also Inside: Habitat Builder Fragment

Swim down through the small opening inside the Welcome Center — there's a Habitat Builder fragment to scan. This unlocks the Habitat Builder blueprint faster than hunting through random wreckage.

Camp One (250m North-Northeast of Lifepod)

While you're exploring early, Camp One is another key location. This ruined hab 250m NNE of your Lifepod has Titanium, Copper, and scannable fragments. Enter through the opening below one of the ruined corridor segments.
