How to Fix Digestive Incompatibility in Subnautica 2

Can't eat food in Subnautica 2? Here's how to find the Angel Comb and permanently unlock the Digestion Adaptation in minutes.

One of the first surprises in Subnautica 2 is that you cannot eat native food when you start. Your character has Digestive Incompatibility — human biology conflicts with Zezura's alien ecosystem. Eating raw local fish harms you rather than restoring hunger.

The fix is fast if you know where to look.

What Is Digestive Incompatibility?

When you first arrive on Planet Zezura, eating most native food sources will lower your health instead of restoring hunger. The game doesn't explain this clearly at first, which catches many players off guard in their first session.

The Fix: Find the Angel Comb

The Angel Comb is an alien plant located approximately 150 meters north of your Lifepod (your crash landing point). Here's how to find it:

1. Look for a large black cable running across the seafloor from near your Lifepod. Follow it north — it acts almost like a guide path.

2. Swim north until you spot the Angel Comb — a distinctive alien plant with a central pink bulb.

3. Interact with the pink bulb. Your character will extend their hand and the plant injects you with alien enzymes.

4. You receive the Digestion Adaptation permanently — Digestive Incompatibility is cured.

After the Fix

Once you have the Digestion Adaptation:

  • Raw fish restores hunger without any health penalty
  • Cooked fish (via a Fabricator) is even more effective and faster
  • Water Slugs were already safe before the fix — they distil into drinkable water at the Lifepod Fabricator

Tip: Do This First

The Angel Comb is close to your starting area and takes under two minutes to find. Curing Digestive Incompatibility before building anything else removes a major early survival bottleneck. Make it your first task on Zezura.
